The Meetings Industry Association (mia) has successfully brought together venues and the UK’s top agents for a second year through its popular Connect Agent Day.
Agents representing businesses such as Cloud 9 Event Management, Dotted Lines, Click Travel, Inntel, Hire Space and ACE Bookings, joined over 120 representatives from venues around the UK to debate some of the hottest topics in the industry at the all-day event at The DoubleTree by Hilton in Chester.
Attendees at the experiential event, on 27 March, took part in a 30 in 30 quickfire question and answer session, quizzing a panel of agents on hot topics such as how venues can convert business, how to work well with Government and the ways technology can enhance events.
More views were exchanged during an intimate series of discussions in the ‘Think in Talk in’ sessions. Topics covered included sustainability and looking ahead to Generation Z.
An afternoon of fun and interactive activity organised by GOTO Events followed lunch and saw teams compete in a ‘Prision Break’ Escape Room-style challenge before the day ended with a drinks reception and networking.
The mia’s Connect Agent Day is a popular platform for a wide range of industry professionals to network with top agents and where both parties can gain crucial insights.
Feedback from delegates on the Connect Agent Day in Chester was overwhelmingly positive. One delegate, Robin Huxley, marketing manager at The Events Company, said: “One of the best benefits of attending the Connect Agent Day is that it always gives fantastic networking opportunities. The brilliant delivery method for exchanging contact details was ingenious. I love the format and the great attendance from venues and agents. It’s a lovely event.”
Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “It was fantastic to see so many attendees at our second Connect Agent Day. Bringing agents and venues together to discuss some of the burning issues they both face and network is hugely beneficial to both parties and the mia is pleased to be able to facilitate such an opportunity.”
The Agent Day forms part of the mia’s ‘Connect’ events programme, which was launched last year and is led by the association's Connect Taskforce. The group of experienced professionals from across the business meetings and events industry sector help to further enhance the mia’s renowned, informative and inspiring learning programme to give members a tangible return on investment.
Bookings are now being taken for the next event – a Connect Agent Dinner on 30 May 2019 at The Grand, Brighton. During the dinner, each table will be hosted by a different agent and the agents will move tables in-between courses.
